Public summary of the selected project

 

 

The ClimAdaPT.Local project is in line with the main objectives of the European Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (AC) and the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (ENAAC), intending to demonstrate that adaptation at the local level can promote the achievement of the objectives of EEA Grants. The project will contribute to the objectives of the five complementary forms contest:

  1. Merger of size adaptation ACs local and municipal level in Portugal;

  2. Creating a community of municipal agents, aware of the topic and trained in the use of decision support tools for adaptation;

  3. Promotion and provision of local knowledge in adaptation, particularly in developing strategies, planning and implementation of measures and reporting results;

  4. Reducing barriers and constraints to the involvement of local stakeholders in adaptation processes;

  5. Integrating adaptation into planning and decision processes of municipal and sectoral agents.

 

The transdisciplinary team of highly competent and recognized national and international will, at the same time enables the municipal staff, prepare Municipal Strategies for Adaptation to Climate Change (EMAAC) and promote their integration into municipal planning instruments. It will also develop tools and products that facilitate the development and implementation of EMAAC in pilot municipalities and in the future in other Portuguese cities.

 

The project includes the following Work Packages (WP):

  • WP0 - Coordination and monitoring of the project;

  • WP1 - Development of local adaptation strategies to climate change in pilot municipalities;

  • WP2 - municipalities of technical training;

  • WP3 - Development of a community of adaptation in Portugal;

  • WP4 - Creation and maintenance of a technical support service to adapt to climate change;

  • WP5 - Development of guidelines for the integration of adaptation to climate change in municipal planning.

 

Its final products:

  • Plan, program and teacher training materials for local adaptation;

  • Implementation Guide of the Network of municipalities, creating the network of Charter and action program for 2016-2018;

  • Manuals of current vulnerabilities, and future adaptation - Web site and "HelpDesk" platform;

  • 26 (+3) Municipal Reports diagnostic and adaptation to ACs - 26 (3) EMAAC;

  • Guidelines: Integrating adaptation in municipal planning;

  • Project impact monitoring report.
