Municipal Strategies for Adaptation to Climate Change

Project budget: 1,499,862.40 euros (funded at the rate of 100%, with the exception of Quercus partner that is funded at a rate of 90%, as provided in paragraph 1 of Article 35 of the General Regulation Program ADAPT)

Project summary

 

The ClimAdaPT.Local project is in line with the main objectives of the European Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (AC) and the National Strategy for Adaptation to AC (ENAAC) who demonstrate that adaptation at the local level can promote the achievement of the objectives of the EEA Grants. The project will contribute to the objectives of the five additional forms contest:

 

  1. Incorporation of the dimension adaptation ACs at local and municipal level in Portugal;

  2. Creating a community of municipal officials, aware of the topic and trained in the use of decision support tools for adaptation;

  3. Promotion and availability of local knowledge on adaptation, particularly in policy making, planning and implementation of measures and reporting results;

  4. Reducing barriers and constraints to the involvement of local stakeholders in the adaptation process;

  5. Integrating adaptation into planning and decision processes of municipal and sectoral agents.

 

The interdisciplinary team of highly competent and recognized national and international will, at the same time it enables the municipal staff, develop adaptation Municipal Strategies to AC (EMAAC) and promote their integration into the municipal planning instruments. Will also develop tools and products that facilitate the development and implementation of EMAAC Municipalities in pilot and in the future, in other Portuguese cities.

 

The project includes the following Work Packages:

  • WP0 - Coordination and Project Monitoring.

  • WP1 - Municipal Development Strategies for Adaptation to Climate Change in Pilot Municipalities.

  • WP2 - Local authorities Technical Training.

  • WP3 - Development of a Community Adaptation in Portugal.

  • WP4 - Creation and maintenance of a Service Technical Support of Climate Change Adaptation.

  • WP5 - Guidelines Development for the Integration of Climate Change Adaptation in the Municipal Planning.

 

And will have the final products:

  • Plan, program and teacher training materials for local adaptation;

  • Guide implementation of the Network of Municipalities, Creating Letter from Network and Programme of Action for 2016-2018;

  • Current Vulnerability manuals, Future and Adaptation - Web site and Platform "HelpDesk";

  • 26 (+3) Municipal Reports diagnostic and adaptation CA - 26 (3) EMAAC;

  • Guidelines: Integrating Adaptation in the Municipal Planning;

  • Impact of the Project Monitoring Report.
